God Of Grace God Of Love
2/17/2009
At my blogspot blog here you can view a video (third one down, the one showing me holding the guitar) of a song that I arranged and composed. We have sung it a couple of times on our services the past few weeks so that you could get familiar with it. It is an old Isaac Watts’ hymn which I set to the familiar “Doxology” (“Praise God from whom all blessings flow…”) tune and then wrote a refrain to go along with it as well. We will open this year’s True Church Conference with it. It speaks in great depth of the crushing blows of conviction upon a man’s soul.
It is our prayer that as the theme of the conference is “The Wonderful Grace Of Repentance” that God will grace all of us—church members and conference attendees alike—with deep, Godly sorrow that produces repentance that leads to life. Hope to see you here at the conference!
The text is as follows:
GOD OF GRACE GOD OF LOVE
Show pity, Lord, O Lord, forgive,
Let a repenting rebel live:
Are not Thy mercies large and free?
May not a sinner trust in Thee?
My crimes are great, but don't surpass
The power and glory of Thy grace:
Great God, Thy nature hath no bound,
So let Thy pardoning love be found.
God of grace! God of love!
O have mercy on a wand’ring heart like mine
Son of Man! Son of God!
Keep me turning to Thy finished work divine
Should sudden vengeance seize my breath,
I must pronounce Thee just in death;
And if my soul were sent to hell,
Thy righteous law approves it well.
My lips with shame my sins confess
Against Thy law, against Thy grace:
Lord, should Thy judgment grow severe,
I am condemned, but Thou art clear.
O depth of mercy!
Can it be that mercy’s still reserved for me?
Ah, can my God His wrath forbear
And me the chief of sinners spare?
