Feelings...whoa...whoa...whoa...feelings....
1/26/2009

I found this quote from a Life Action quarterly that I receive and thought it worth sharing.
Feeling is an essential element of real religion. A religion that is without feeling, that embraces the intellect only, is not true to nature and is radically and fatally defective. If it enlists but the judgment and not the heart, it is lacking in one of the grand essentials of the religion of Christ. It is equally as essential that the heart should be affected as that the judgment should be enlightened; both are indispensable elements of real religion.
Octavius Winslow (1808-1878), English pastor, on the verse “Jesus wept”.
A few questions for a Music Minister or choir member to ask themselves:
Are you afraid to express biblical affections when you lead the song service? Why?
Do you express too much? Why?
What are you doing in your leadership to foster church services where affections are expressed?
To whom are you responding in the way you express affections to God? Scripture? Other out-of-balance Christians?
To whom do you hold yourself accountable in the way you express affections when leading?
How does your focusing (or lack thereof) on the gospel assist (prevent) in this expression?
I welcome your feedback on these questions or any other questions that you think need to be asked.
